Sergio Perez has endured a lackluster 2024 season, securing only 152 points and falling to eighth place in the drivers’ standings. This marks his worst season with Red Bull, falling significantly short of his previous point tallies of 190 (2021), 205 (2022), and 285 (2023). The 227-point gap to teammate Max Verstappen has also cost Red Bull crucial championship bonuses.
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner hinted at Perez’s uncertain future, saying after the Qatar GP, “Checo is experienced and wise enough to assess his own situation.” Meanwhile, Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko highlighted increasing dissatisfaction within the team, emphasizing that Perez’s performance has fallen below expectations.
If Red Bull terminates Perez’s contract, the team will reportedly face a six-figure compensation payout. On the other hand, Perez is rumored to be exploring new opportunities, potentially with the Cadillac and General Motors team, which plans to enter Formula 1 in 2026.
