Chinese tech giant Xiaomi continues to make bold moves in the electric vehicle sector. The brand’s highly anticipated new SUV, Xiaomi YU7, has gained more details through recently revealed regulatory filings. This model, which stands out especially in terms of range and battery configurations, has already generated significant interest even before its official release. While its launch is expected in June or July 2025, its specifications are already turning heads.
The Xiaomi YU7 will be available in two different configurations: single-motor and dual-motor. The single-motor version is powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries produced by BYD’s FinDreams Battery. According to China’s CLTC testing standards, this version offers an impressive range of up to 820 km. While CLTC figures tend to be more optimistic compared to other global standards, even in real-world usage, this range remains highly competitive.
The dual-motor version, on the other hand, features nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries supplied by CATL. This model offers a CLTC-rated range of up to 760 km. While ternary lithium batteries typically provide higher energy density, the dual-motor setup results in greater power consumption.
The battery pack of the single-motor version weighs 719 kg, while the dual-motor model’s battery is 666 kg. However, in terms of overall vehicle weight, the single-motor model is 2,315 kg, whereas the dual-motor version is 2,405 kg.
Looking at energy efficiency, the single-motor model consumes 13.38 kWh per 100 km, whereas the dual-motor version consumes 11.74 kWh per 100 km. The lower consumption in the dual-motor model may seem surprising, but it can be attributed to advanced battery technology and a more balanced power distribution.
Earlier reports also revealed the dimensions of the Xiaomi YU7:
- Length: 4,999 mm
- Width: 1,996 mm
- Height: 1,600 mm
- Wheelbase: 3,000 mm
With these measurements, the YU7 is positioned between the Tesla Model X and Model Y. Marketed as a direct competitor to Tesla’s popular SUVs, the YU7’s long range could make it a strong alternative for Tesla customers.
Xiaomi had previously entered the electric vehicle market with its SU7 sedan and is now continuing its journey with the YU7 SUV. The company’s bold move into the automotive industry suggests it could become a major competitor to Tesla and other industry leaders.
With its strong range capabilities, different battery options, and spacious design, the YU7 is shaping up to be a standout model in the growing EV market. The single-motor version will likely attract drivers who prioritize extended mileage, while the dual-motor model appeals to those looking for faster acceleration and all-wheel drive performance.
As the launch date approaches, more details on pricing and additional features will be revealed. However, even with the current information, it's clear that the YU7 will be a significant milestone in Xiaomi’s journey into the electric vehicle world.
