A new era in smart glasses: Meta launches real-time translation and AI interaction

Meta continues to push the boundaries of digital innovation with its latest update for smart glasses. First introduced at the Meta Connect 2024 event and made available in select countries via early access in December, the real-time translation feature is now being rolled out to a wider audience. With this feature, users can easily converse with speakers of English, French, Italian, or Spanish, and hear real-time translations in their preferred language directly through the glasses.

The translation is also visible on the connected smartphone, allowing for an integrated communication experience. To activate the feature, users simply need to download the relevant language pack. A notable advantage is that this function can operate offline, making it ideal for travelers, multilingual professionals, or language learners.

Looking ahead, Meta plans to unveil the Live AI feature, which will enable real-time AI-powered interactions based on what the user sees through the glasses' built-in camera. Users will be able to ask questions directly—without needing a wake word—and receive hands-free assistance for tasks like cooking or gardening.

Additionally, the smart glasses now support messaging, photos, and voice/video calls via WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. Currently available through Meta’s collaboration with Ray-Ban, the glasses come in three frame styles: Wayfarer, Headliner, and Skyler, starting at $299. Meta also announced expansion into markets such as Mexico, India, and the UAE. While there is no official sale in Turkey yet, Turkish-language resources are available for interested users.
