Bluesky's move for trust: Blue check badge highlights verified accounts

As digital platforms increasingly prioritize transparency and credibility, Bluesky has taken a significant step by launching its long-awaited blue check verification system. With this new feature, users will now be able to easily identify authentic and recognized accounts, especially those of public interest.

Designed primarily for journalists, politicians, and well-known public figures, the blue check aims to combat the spread of misinformation by fake accounts. By clearly marking accounts that truly belong to a specific individual or organization, the platform hopes to reduce confusion and enhance trust.

Initially, the verification process will be carried out through a limited number of independent and reputable organizations. These institutions can verify their own members, such as a company's spokesperson or a journalist within a media outlet, allowing them to display the blue badge and signal that their posts are officially endorsed.

Bluesky’s moderation team will also review each verified account individually, adding an extra layer of protection against impersonation or fraud. While individual verification requests are not yet accepted, the platform plans to introduce a user application system in the near future.
