BYD's first station wagon is on the way: Meet the Seal 06 DM-i Wagon

While station wagons are a common sight on European roads, the same cannot be said for China, where sedans and SUVs dominate the market. Chinese automakers, including BYD, have traditionally steered clear of the station wagon segment. However, as these manufacturers aim to strengthen their presence in global markets—particularly in Europe—this perception is beginning to change. The latest example of this shift is BYD’s first station wagon under its own brand: the Seal 06 DM-i Wagon.

BYD has already made waves with the sedan version of the Seal 06 DM-i, which launched in May and quickly became one of the brand’s best-selling models in China. While the station wagon variant is unlikely to replicate that success domestically, BYD is clearly setting its sights on the European market with this new release.

The Seal 06 DM-i Wagon has yet to be officially unveiled, but recently leaked government documents—part of BYD’s application for a sales license—have revealed detailed specifications and images of the vehicle.

Visually, the wagon bears a strong resemblance to its sedan sibling. The front end features a wide trapezoidal air intake and sharp headlights, reminiscent of other models in BYD's Ocean lineup. Flush door handles and a subtly sloped roofline give the car a sleek, modern look. At the rear, a full-width LED taillight adds to the car’s contemporary styling.

The vehicle measures 4850 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, and 1505 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2790 mm. Depending on the variant, it comes with either 17- or 18-inch wheels and weighs between 1700 and 1800 kilograms.

The Seal 06 DM-i Wagon will be available in two plug-in hybrid (DM-i) variants. The entry-level model features a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 74 kW (99 hp), paired with a 120 kW (161 hp) electric motor. This version uses a 10.08 kWh Blade LFP battery from FinDreams and offers a pure electric driving range of 53 km under CLTC standards.

The higher-spec version is equipped with a more powerful 160 kW (215 hp) electric motor and a larger 15.874 kWh LFP battery, allowing for a longer electric-only range of 83 km.

While BYD has not yet announced an official release date, its application for a sales license suggests that the Seal 06 DM-i Wagon will be hitting showrooms in the near future. With its European-friendly design and practical plug-in hybrid technology, this station wagon is poised to attract attention well beyond Chinese borders.
